Abstract: The phylogenetic and morphological diversity of prokaryotes is bewildering. However, molecular cell biology has only been focusing on a dozen species. This gravely limits our understanding of key life processes such as cell growth and division. In my talk, I will present what we have learned from studying the division mode and chromosome biology of multicellular bacteria that thrive in the human mouth.
