„From antibiotic discovery to cell morphogenesis – or why work on Streptomyces now”, Dr Bernhard Kepplinger, Postdoctoral Fellow The Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology, Medical School Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom.

Presantation will be in English.

Filamentous Actinobacteria particularly of the genus Streptomyces are an invaluable source of antibiotics, anticancer compounds and immunomodulators. Current technological advances, particularly the application of whole genome sequencing, has accelerated secondary metabolite discovery. Despite their industrial importance, the cell morphogenesis of these organism is understudied. I hope to demonstrate that Streptomyces are not only talented producers of secondary metabolites but also fascinating microorganism to study in terms of cell morphogenesis.
