MSc Medical Biotechnology programme
Second level studies in Medical Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biotechnology enable students to develop skills in solving problems arising in experimental work. Individual master’s dissertation projects coordinated by the Faculty’s research and teaching staff serve this purpose. The second cycle program reflects the specificity and high quality of scientific research of the Faculty’s 15 research groups.
What can you learn?
A graduate of Medical Biotechnology:
- possesses comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of biological sciences, in particular of biochemistry and medical biotechnology, that is essential to perform professional duties in interdisciplinary manner
- is proficient in using bioinformatics tools and literature in the English language in his or her professional work;
- is prepared to discuss scientific issues;
- knows how to arrange individual and team work in the laboratory in accordance with the principles of bioethics and safety;
- has knowledge of the implementation of research and application projects,
- knows the principles for the creation and development of individual entrepreneurship and is well informed in the market of biotech companies;
- is able to facilitate his or her further learning and career planning;
- speaks English at B2+ level and uses professional English vocabulary related to biology, biochemistry, biomedicine and biotechnology.
The program lasts 2 years (4 semesters). To obtain a master’s degree, students must write and defend a master thesis.
ADMISSION FOR FOREIGN CANDIDATES

- entry requirements:
· diploma of at least undergraduate (bachelor’s or engineering) in the following fields: biotechnology, biochemistry, medical biology, molecular biology or related;
Graduates of studies other than Biotechnologia or BSc Biotechnology at the University of Wrocław submit transcript of grades or diploma supplement.
· motivation/cover letter (why Medical Biotechnology is your choice; what are your previous achievements – e.g. have you participated in any research projects and/or took part in any scientific conference; what are your educational / scientific / professional future plans);
Graduates of Biotechnologia or BSc Biotechnology at the University of Wrocław are not obliged to submit a motivation/cover letter.
· at least one recommendation letter (template) from an academic teacher or employer. The letter must be sent by the recommending person directly to the following address:

Graduates of Biotechnologia or BSc Biotechnology at the University of Wrocław are not obliged to submit a recommendation letter.
Fulfilment of the above entry requirements by a candidate is assessed as follows:
· 0-30 points for the completed field of study;
· 0-10 points for a cover letter;
· 0-10 points for a recommendation letter.
Candidates with at least 25 points assigned and all Biotechnologia or BSc Biotechnology at the University of Wrocław will be invited to an INTERVIEW (the exact date and mode – face-face or on-line mode – of the interview will be agreed with candidates individually).
INTERVIEW: Each candidate’s performance is assessed on a scale of 0 to 50 points. Earning of at least 20 points is required to pass the interview. Candidates with positive interview results are ranked according to the points obtained (at this step only the interview result is taken into account). The decision on admission depends on the position on the RANKING LIST (based on interview result). The admission limit for the academic year of 2025/2026 is 12 places.

Candidates meeting the entry requirements take part in the INTERVIEW. Each candidate’s performance is assessed on a scale of 0 to 50 points. Earning of at least 20 points is required to pass the interview. Candidates with positive interview results are ranked according to the points obtained. The decision on admission depends on the position on the RANKING LIST. The admission limit for the academic year of 2025/2026 is 4 places for Polish citizens.
