Research Topics
- Our studies focus on Mycobacterium and Streptomyces, which belong to gram-positive bacteria – Actinomycetales.
- Mycobacteria include pathogens that cause serious diseases including tuberculosis and leprosy.
- Streptomyces are harmless soil bacteria, which produce more than half of our currently available antibiotics.
- Streptomyces are multicellular bacteria with complex life cycle. They grow forming branched mycelium and sporulate.
- The main area of our research is a life cycle of these bacteria. Before bacterial cell division, chromosome must be precisely replicated and segregated reliably to daughter cells. Using molecular and cell biology methods, we are studying – elements involved in regulation of replication and components of chromosome segregation machinery.
