The FGF1 and FGF2 proteins inhibit apoptosis in NIH 3T3 cells on the external and internal pathways. The ability to inhibit apoptosis is determined by their import into the cell nucleus and the amount of time, they spend in the nucleus, affects their ability to increase cell viability.
